About Us | Gippy Girls Can

Celebrating Gippsland women and girls getting active, together.

No judgement. No pressure. Just real women, real stories, and real opportunities to move in a way that feels good for you.

About Us

#GippyGirlsCan celebrates all Gippsland women and girls, without judgement, and challenges out-dated gender stereotypes to create a community where seeing active, empowered women is the norm and something worth celebrating.

What is #GippyGirlsCan?

Gippy Girls Can is first and foremost a social media movement encouraging Gippsland women and girls to get active and celebrate participating in physical activity together. It's for all women and girls, including LGBTIQ+ people who identify as women, girls, or non-binary. Everyone's welcome, wherever you're at on your journey to being active.

Programs run under the Gippy Girls Can banner support the movement by giving women and girls across Gippsland real opportunities to get involved in physical activity.

GippSport delivers Gippy Girls Can, with parts of this work funded through the VicHealth Regional Sport Program and Sport and Recreation Victoria, which support specific pieces like gathering community evidence and helping local clubs build more inclusive environments for women and girls. Beyond that, GippSport also partners more broadly with local sporting clubs and associations, councils and community organisations to bring Gippy Girls Can opportunities to life across the region, connecting the activity, the clubs, the community groups and the participants to build the Gippy Girls Can community.

GippSport works with the community to increase opportunities for women and girls to get involved in a range of sports and active recreation options, and supports local clubs, associations and community groups to host Gippy Girls Can programs and events.

A Bit of History

Gippy Girls Can has been running since April 2018, as GippSport's own localised movement for the region. From 2018 to 2024, it also aligned with This Girl Can Victoria, VicHealth's state-wide campaign that ran to break down the barriers stopping women from being active, things like fear of judgement or feeling they weren't fit enough to start. That campaign has since wrapped up, but Gippy Girls Can keeps going, because the need for safe, welcoming, inclusive spaces for Gippsland women and girls to move hasn't gone anywhere.

Our Approach

How we support, encourage and inspire Gippsland women

Gippy Girls Can isn't about telling women that how they feel about exercise is wrong, or that the way they're doing it is incorrect. We're not here to guilt-trip anyone into taking up a sport.

We know the fear of judgement stops a lot of women from getting active, and the way we talk about exercise, physical activity and sport should lessen that fear, not add to it.

We're here to support, encourage and inspire women, rather than educate or preach at them, and to do it in a way that's fun, accessible and real.
